Body-oriented Psychotherapy and Embodiment Coaching
One of the best ways to understand my work is that I focus on patterns.
We all have patterns we have developed consciously and unconsciously that serve how we relate to ourselves and others and how our bodies and nervous system interacts. These patterns also create a dynamic relationship with the perspectives and beliefs we hold. These patterns are learned through adaptive experience and what we were born into and with. They are ultimately patterns of survival and connection. Some of these patterns still serve us well and some may no longer provide the resourcing and flexibility we need to thrive but there is an inherent principle that we developed these patterns from a place of best intention and the wisdom we had at the time.
When we find ourselves feeling blocked or stuck, caught in loops, or unable to stop and slow down, we are experiencing a pattern that has become habituated in our mind and body. When we can turn towards these patterns, find the knots or points of resistance that are holding the pattern in place, we can work to untangle and shift the knot with compassionate, attuned presence. We can open our world up to new possibilities and ways of being with self and other. We may choose to change patterns by processing trauma using EMDR, by working with parts that have roles in the pattern though internal family systems or by joining with your system using UZAZU to move through stuck developmental patterns and access an adaptive range that offers greater choice.
Often, one of our core tasks is to differentiate and integrate the intergenerational, cultural and personal embodied patterns that impact who we are, how we see the world and how we move about in it. Many of the threads we have gathered from what has come before us can offer strength, grounding and wisdom- and some are threads we no longer need to hold onto, or they are in need of our creative, caring attention to be woven into something new.
